In the African bush we are immersed in our environment – every bird call and every sunset seems more vivid than the last! As the seasons change, so do the animals and plants around us, and each new season bringing with it memorable magical moments.

If you’re planning a trip to Sediba, you’re probably wondering when is the best time to visit? Well, that all depends on your vacation style so let’s dig a little deeper:

Springtime at Sediba – September, October, November

At the beginning of Spring, the days are getting longer and the sunshine a little warmer. Enjoy sunny days and clear nights – ideal for relaxing on your private deck, in a steaming hot jacuzzi, soaking away all the tension from your muscles.

Trees and shrubs are bursting into bloom, and along with the new blossoms there is an increase in bird and butterfly activity. Until the first rains fall towards the middle of October, we can still benefit from the clear game viewing of the Winter months.

Sediba in the summer – December, January, February

Summertime is the traditional time for family holidays in South Africa, with kids on school vacation and most people choosing to leave the office behind for a few weeks. The buzz of Christmas time only adds to the festive feelings!

The hot summery days are perfect for spending time at our pool, sipping on refreshing drinks and indulging in gourmet meals prepared by our team of expert chefs.

Summertime is also the rainy season, which brings with it lush grazing for the baby animals that join us at this time of year. Baby elephants, zebra foals, lion cubs and even hyena pups can often be seen – sometimes for the very first time!

Awesome Autumn at Sediba – March, April, May

With sunny clear days and crisp evenings, Autumn is a wonderful season at Sediba. Enjoy spectacular African sunsets on a romantic evening game drive, complete with a rest stop and perhaps a glass of sparkling wine?

After the heat of the summer, the weather begins to cool slightly. Cooler weather means that animals are becoming more active, while rivers and creeks are filled with glorious mud – so loved by the elephants and the hippos!

Our baby animals are gaining in confidence, and many will be entering their adolescent years as they explore the territory of the reserve.

Magical Sediba during Winter – June, July, August

Winters at Sediba are a magical time of year. Imagine cuddling with your sweetheart under a cozy blanket, staring into a roaring firepit and sipping on fine South African red wine. A lion roars in the distance. You can see shooting stars overhead.

Winters are dry and crisp at Sediba, so bring a jacket for the morning game drives. The refreshing conditions warm up to a comfortable temperature in the afternoons for those who prefer milder weather.

Winter is the dry season, which means that most of the grasses and grazing has died back. The sparse foliage creates ideal conditions for crystal clear game viewing, while the watering hole attracts animals daily looking for fresh drinking water.
